The California Quake was originally founded in 2001, by the original founder and former owner Sandy Kaneko. They were originally based in Long Beach and officially joined the Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL) in 2003. During that fall season, Catherine B. Vivo had played on the Quake organization further assisting the management with graphic design, marketing, web design and game day operations. As each season continued, Kaneko and Vivo began collaboratively together to improve the Quake organization. They most definitely carried the same passion and love of the game.
By the end of 2007 season, Kaneko decided to past the torch to Vivo, to further seek other opportunities and career goals. By 2008 Catherine B. Vivo was the new California Quake President and decided to relocate the expansion of the team throughout the Los Angeles, California community - Downey, Carson, Torrance, Huntington Park, East Los Angeles and surrounding areas.
Football is a lifestyle. It's not about just about playing the sport, its life changing on and off the field. To Vivo managing this team has become a life commitment, day in and day out - all year round; running the business never stops. Since she has acquired the team, the Quake orgainzation held one conference title and 3 divisional titles. The Quake organization is always about positive improvements, embracing the new and familiar faces, amazing enhancements and embracing the Quake tradition - wearing our black and yellow proudly.
By day these women are students, career women, teachers, mothers, sisters and daughters and by night they are simply athletes - FOOTBALL PLAYERS! They have the passion, drive, and motivation to follow their dream and have the opportunity to play football!
Let's not forget that Vivo, the supporting Staff members as well as the Coaches are all UNPAID, VOLUNTEERS that spend countless hours and sacrfice their time away from their family. They all truly believed in the Quake program and most importantly have passion in the future of women's football!!
The 2015 season was the 15th consistent season in existence but 13th season in the IWFL. Season after season the Quake has built a strong foundation for women to play football and the tradition continued under the direction of Vivo. After an amazing run, she decided to close the books to The Legacy of the Quake organization.
The Quake organization provides women athletes the opportunity to play tackle football. We aim to lead by example, through our determination and perseverance while making a positive impact in our community. We are honored to make our contribution to yet another pivotal accomplishment for women in sports, which courageous women before us have embarked.
